At the end of March, both Noah Gopin and Thomas Langille , Brookline residents, were laid off from their jobs. Thomas is the Executive Pastry Chef at a well known Boston restaurant and Noah is a Front Desk Agent at a prominent Boston hotel. Facing the prospect of nothing to do, except focus on the anxiety and fear of the situation, they decided to donate their time and talents for making cookies and pastry treats for the healthcare workers at MGH and Sturdy Memorial Hospital, where Thomas’s sister works as a respiratory therapist.. The rationale was that these everyday heroes could use a sweet treat that might bring a momentary smile. The first delivery was for 50 large chocolate chip cookies for the healthcare workers in the Emergency Unit at MGH . Since then, there have been over 4 other deliveries. For the largest and most recent “bake-off’” ,Thomas posted a challenge to his pastry friends on Facebook and 19 of his pastry chef friends answered the call and volunteered to bake over 1000 assorted cookies, cupcakes, loaf cakes, muffins, and donuts. To date, more than 4000 desserts have been provided to the front line workers who have devoted themselves to the care of others suffering from the Covid 19 virus. As the word spread to neighbors and relatives, people wanted to contribute some money to purchase the raw materials and share in the good feelings.
